We need your help. Your church here in Outwood is suffering with subsidence and it's going to cost of the order of £1-2 Million to put it right. The problems are increasing so if we are going to save this building for future generations we are going to need to raise the money in the next six months. We've had a recent structural engineer's report and the outlook is pretty bleak.

We appreciate this is a lot of money to raise in a very short amount of time. We have exhausted routes through insurance and the Coal Board and as we are not a listed building there are no grants we can apply to that will come close to helping us meet these costs. This is your church. The church is most importantly the people who use it rather than the building itself. Although we may be forced to close the building, we will not be closing the church. In the event we are unable to raise the funds to do this work we will, when the building is no longer safe for worship, arrange to move across the road and begin worshipping in the Church Institute building.

Finally with immediate effect we have been forced to close the footpath through the churchyard between Church Lane and Leeds Road. The part of the building at greatest risk is the chancel which the footpath passes outside and whilst we do not expect it to collapse immediately we do not want to place anyone at risk. … See MoreSee Less
