{"id":996,"date":"2018-03-04T14:53:01","date_gmt":"2018-03-04T14:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nwbchurches.org.uk\/stanley\/?p=996"},"modified":"2025-06-28T19:32:58","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T19:32:58","slug":"mothering-sunday-and-easter-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nwbchurches.org.uk\/stanley\/mothering-sunday-and-easter-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Mothering Sunday and Easter 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Mothering Sunday\u201411th March<\/b><\/p>\n<p>There is an old Jewish saying: \u201cGod could not be everywhere and therefore He made mothers.\u201d\u00a0 Mother Church, Mother Earth, and our own mothers have all been part of \u2018Mothering Sunday\u2019 which has been celebrated in the UK since at least the 1600\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>In most countries, Mother\u2019s Day is a secular festival celebrated on the 2nd Sunday in May.\u00a0 In the UK it is celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent, on the Christian day of Mothering Sunday.\u00a0 Join us at St Peter\u2019s on 11th March at 10am for our popular Mothering Sunday family parade service.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Easter Services at St Peter\u2019s church<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Palm Sunday, 25th March, 10.30am<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Our Palm Sunday service will be a joint service with Mount Road Methodist chapel.\u00a0 The service will start at 10.30am (note this is later than the\u00a0\u00a0 usual St Peter\u2019s start time) at Mount Road chapel.\u00a0 During the service the congregation will process down the road to St Peter\u2019s church for the remainder of the service.\u00a0 This is always a lovely family service when we\u00a0 remember Jesus\u2019 triumphant arrival into Jerusalem.\u00a0 Please join us!<\/p>\n<p><b>Maundy Thursday Communion service, 29th March, 7.30pm<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Maundy Thursday celebrates the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his apostles.\u00a0 There will be a communion service at St Peters\u2019 at 7.30pm on Maundy Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><b>Good Friday Communion service, 30th March, 2pm<\/b><\/p>\n<p>On Good Friday there will be an Hour at the Cross service of contemplation and prayer finishing with communion at 3pm, the time at which Jesus died on the cross.\u00a0 <i>Note that there won\u2019t be a Good Friday Hot Cross Bun service this year.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Easter Sunday, 1st April, 10am<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Easter is the most joyful day of the year for\u00a0 Christians.\u00a0 Christ has died for our sins.\u00a0 We are forgiven.\u00a0 Christ has risen!\u00a0 We are redeemed!\u00a0 We can look forward to an eternity in his joy! Hallelujah!
